Veridos continues to manufacture most modern smart ID cards in the world for Kosovo
Berlin, 15th of December, 2016 – The Republic of Kosovo has again chosen Veridos to provide multifunctional, electronic and entirely contactless smart ID cards, featuring cutting-edge technology of tomorrow. This decision means the successful partnership between Veridos and the Republic of Kosovo will continue for another five years.
“We are looking forward to the next period of our partnership”, states Veridos CEO Hans Wolfgang Kunz. With the new contract, Veridos builds on the long-term corporation with the Republic of Kosovo, which had originally commissioned Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), one of Veridos parent companies, with the supply of ID cards. After the foundation of Veridos in 2015 all contracts with regards to Government Identity solutions were signed over to the German company.
“In the next five years we will provide all the system components related to the eID process, from enrolment and document delivery through issuance and service and maintenance.”, explains Labinot Carreti, Head of Global Sales, regarding the content of the new contract. While pleased that the company will continue working with the Ministry of Interior, he is also looking further ahead: “It would be great if Veridos could assist the Kosovar Government to prepare more use cases in order to allow exploration of the full potential of the card in the future.”
The ID cards which Veridos has been manufacturing and delivering to the Republic of Kosovo are among the most state-of-the-art smart ID cards in use anywhere in the world. The Kosovar citizens receive a highly secure, multifunctional document featuring cutting-edge technology, through which they can continue to access user friendly eGovernment and eBusiness services. The modern technology enables the Kosovar people to deal more easily with public authorities, banks and retailers online, since it is an easy and secure way to prove one’s identity. Additionally this form of ID supports the creation of legally binding electronic signatures.
